Ambassador Spotlights: TACT Therapy Services

TACT Therapy Services

Can you tell me what your organisation does?

TACT is a therapy training organisation. We train people up with skills for psychotherapeutic services for children; we’ve been developing high-quality therapists since 2008.

It is quite a success story for Redcar, especially when you expect to see these kinds of services only in large cities. We also provide individual and team stress management services for many businesses in the North East.

Currently, we’re the only organisation in Redcar and Cleveland that is accredited to giving this high-level of training; and one of only three in the Northeast of England. We have recently expanded into developing psychotherapists for adult services, as the demand for therapeutic services is tremendous.

We’ve had people from all over the Tees Valley to come train with us, offering the chance for people to work towards a level 6 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Child Counselling, a 3-year post-graduate course, and a Level 7 Diploma in Psychotherapy, 4-year post-graduate course, both offering the highest quality of training.

Can you tell me the best thing about your organisation?

The best thing I would say is the people that we have trained, knowing that they’re out there saving lives. By having someone who can understand and work through people’s issues, you can truly turn their life around.

It’s giving people the better life that they deserve and helping them overcome the stresses and strains of modern-day life. We believe in having that diverse spectrum of people that can help the community.

What is the proudest achievement in your career?

I would say it’s getting the business up and running and making it successful. We’re not a huge business, but we’ve been going since 2005. We have always been based in the Redcar and Cleveland area and our organisation is a quiet success story that just keeps on going and growing.

Whilst working towards being a not-for-profit organisation, we created TACT for the purpose of creating effective counsellors and psychotherapists, equipping them for the challenges that have affected our most troubled people.

What are you looking forward to in the next 12 months?

I’m looking forward to continuing the success of our training, and ensuring the courses are full and expanding. We’ve got new people training to be tutors, which will hopefully allow us to expand our horizons.

Working with businesses, we are looking forward to working with Redcar | Cleveland Ambassadors and the Chamber of Commerce to promote the benefits of a positive mental health wellbeing.

Sadly, I feel this will be a growing sector in the next year or two, as the pandemic has presented varying challenges that we are prepared to take head on. As a business in Redcar and Cleveland, we are keen to help local businesses to thrive and we’re working to make companies more aware of us, and the Ambassador programme is perfect for that.

What would you say is the best thing about Redcar and Cleveland?

It’s a place that has everything you could need, combined with a great seaside. My children couldn’t wait to go away when it came to university to live the city life, but soon both of them came back, as they quickly realised how Redcar is such a great place to live.

I’ve lived here all my life as a Redcar man, and I’ve witnessed its history of ups and downs, but I do feel that the only way now for Redcar is up!
