8 February 2023 - Land of Iron Museum 'Talk & Tour'

Our first event of 2023 took place at the wonderful new 'Land of Iron' museum at Skinningrove.

Our Place Board Chair, Dr. Angela Brockbank welcomed ambassadors to event, and gave an overview of our activity, including:

Dr Angela Brockbank welcomes attendees

Richard Baker, Place Marketing Manager then gave attendees an 'exclusive' - that a new event will be launched soon - 'Coffee & Connect' - held on a bi-monthly basis, these events will be 'Ambassador events unplugged' - smaller in scale than the regular ambassador events; and will be held at cafes, coffee shops and other venues, right across Redcar and Cleveland.

Angela then handed over to the Land of Iron team to talk about the museum's history, major redevelopment project and plans for the future. Doff Pollard, Museum Manager and Jean Banwell, Education Manager gave ambassadors a really interesting overview of the museum, showing how the redevelopment took shape and how they would like to develop this important asset for our community.

Ambassadors then got an exclusive guided tour of the museum, led superbly by the team of expert guides.

We would like to thank the museum staff for their support and enthusiasm at the event. Their passion for the museum and the heritage that it represents really shines through.

Please take some time to visit the museum and support this important cultural asset for our place - you can get details on the Land of Iron website.

The museum's development was funded by: £1.445M National Lottery grant, under a 'Room to Grow' project; £800,000 from the Coastal Communities Fund, £200,000 from Tees Valley Combined Authority and £50,000 from private donations.

The project as delivered in partnership with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council.
