Redcar Christmas Light Switch On and Illumination Parade

November 28 @ 4:30 pm - 6:45 pm

The magical season of Christmas kicks off in spectacular style in Redcar town centre and we hope you will join us in what will be an evening of visual displays, performances, music, sparkling lights and of course joy and laughter.

Following on from what proved to be a huge success last year when we were able to bring Christmas Spirit to your home with The Great Doorstep Switch On!  which was a fun, creative, festive way to bring the borough together, the theme of illumination will once again be brought to life in the form of a Fire and Ice themed parade. Over two hundred participants from local community groups and schools of the borough will take part in the parade, these dedicated people have been involved with inspiring workshops to bring the town of Redcar alive with an array of lanterns, costumes and visual spectacles that will light up the route along the Northern Quarter and Redcar High Street.

The parade will also be decked with professional performers, you will experience the sounds, sights and smells of everything festive while being entertained by outstanding musical artists such as Spark! Illuminated Drummers and Back Chat Brass. Have your mind blown by the amazing creations and visual displays by artists Mowenna Catt, Adele Catchpole, Whippet Up, Rag and Bone and Shirley Wells.

And of course, get your groove on to the dance performances by The Imaginarium and Urban Kaos ahead of the lights switch on.

The Fire and Ice Parade will begin at 4.30pm and will take you on a 45-minute journey from The Heart in Redcar into the town centre, wrap up warm and follow the crowds on a truly inspiring route of entertainment.

The full Fire and Ice parade route can be downloaded here.

And if that wasn’t enough!! It will be time to join us at the Christmas Lights Switch On stage from 5:30pm where our hosts from Zetland FM will keep you entertained with music, games, and of course more live performances for you to enjoy.

The big button to turn this year’s lights on will be pushed on the count of 10 at 6:30pm by the Mayor of Redcar & Cleveland who will deliver a Christmas message to you all as we wish each and everyone of you a Happy, Healthy Christmas.

We would like to take to opportunity to thank the Tees Valley Community Foundation for their support and sponsorship.
