He gained great knowledge and understanding of all genres – artistically\, musically and in all walks of life generally. And this gave him the great ability of having – ‘Freedom of Movement’. \nRetiring from the Rock Music industry in 2020\, Graham returned to his art and started painting and drawing full time. \nWe do hope you can make it to the opening and look forward to seeing you there!”

SUMMARY:EDAN at 20
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to the next exhibition at The Heritage Gallery at Cargo Fleet: EDAN at 20 \nThe exhibition will be open with free admission\, 12th June – 11th July 2025\, Monday – Friday\, 8.30am – 4.45pm. \nThe official opening evening is on Thursday 12th June\, 5pm – 7pm\, which offers a great opportunity to meet members of the artists and ask any questions you may have about the work on display. \n“It has been twenty years since a group of artists from the East Durham area realised that there were no organisations or groups in East Durham that would encourage and support their continuing artistic development\, and no designated local sites for exhibiting their work. They created East Durham Artists’ Network (EDAN) to fill the gap. \nIn 2025 we celebrate the success of that initiative. \nEDAN is now a fully constituted not-for-profit company with a membership of over fifty professional and amateur artists and supporters who work in a wide range of media. It is committed to furthering the skills and interests of its members through a process of mutual support\, investigative learning\, and engagement with other groups and activities that encourage practice relevant to the concerns of local audiences. \nMembers run a small gallery in Seaham on a voluntary basis and have a programme of exhibitions throughout the year. The gallery programme enables them to present their work professionally\, following their own enthusiasms and using their preferred media. At the same time\, it includes themes and subjects that are relevant to local people\, whilst understanding that the area is never isolated from wider regional\, national and global changes. \nFor EDAN members\, exhibiting work is a focal point for encouraging conversation with audiences\, about valuing different voices\, and enhancing awareness of the range of talent in our region that is often overlooked in the wider national and international arts scene. We value our industrial history and wish to celebrate that. At the same time\, we live in a time of change and dynamic global connections that impact on everyday lives. Addressing these questions is a consistent concern in our art. \nThe work in this exhibition is representative of the range of current member interests. Each artist has chosen a selection from their own portfolio that is representative of work they have produced as a consequence of their involvement with EDAN. This is the culmination of twenty years of consistent voluntary and developmental activity.  Our relationship with the Heritage Gallery is an important part of that. \nTo find out more about EDAN and its artists visit their website\, edanart.co.uk”

SUMMARY:From the Earth Exhibition

SUMMARY:A Dog's Life
DESCRIPTION:Our love of dogs has been part of our national identity for centuries and\, as the world’s most popular pet\, this obsession with our canine companions shows no sign of waning. There are an estimated 12 million dogs in the UK\, with roughly 36% of households owning a dog. \nThe ‘A Dog’s Life’ exhibition shows the work of international artists\, designers\, illustrators and photographers who use dogs as their subject matter and inspiration. Giving insight into the influence and impact that dogs have had on these artists’ lives and practice\, the show explores the bond between humans and their four-legged friends. \nAs well as a wide-ranging display of dog themed photography\, ceramics\, textiles\, prints and sculpture\, there will be lots of opportunities for visitors to get involved: There’s a ‘Name the Breed’ trail\, an interactive which allows visitors to test their knowledge of animated TV and film dog characters\, and there is a digital interactive where visitors can see what they’d look like as a dog. There will also be an area where visitors can display photos of their own dogs and have a go at drawing their own pooch’s portrait.

SUMMARY:All Together Now
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to the next exhibition at The Heritage Gallery at Cargo Fleet: All Together Now \nThe exhibition will be open with free admission\, February 20th – March 21st 2025\, Monday – Friday\, 8.30am – 4.45pm. \nThe official opening evening is on Thursday 20th February\, 5pm – 7pm\, which offers a great opportunity to meet members of the group and ask any questions you may have about the work on display over drinks and nibbles. \n“While each artist has a unique style\, the exhibition showcases a diverse range of artistic expression across different mediums\, creating a fascinating dialogue between their works. \nDrawing on her South Asian heritage\, Nasim Akhtar is an artist working across textiles\, painting\, photography and experimental printmaking. Her work explores the common threads of personal and collective experience\, weaving together textured layers of fabric\, paint\, and mixed media. \nKathleen Rusinek’s work captures the unpredictability of nature\, which is very pertinent to the age that we live in. Fluid art as a medium emulates this unpredictability producing an outcome that is both beautiful and unique. \nDaphne’s work is a homage to the industrial heritage of Teesside and her dark\, atmospheric depictions are fluid and emotive. \nWe do hope you can make it to the opening and look forward to seeing you there.”

SUMMARY:4000 Years: Queering Redcar's History
DESCRIPTION:Redcar Palace is delighted to present “4000 Years…”\, an alternative look at Redcar’s history through a queer lens that stretches back into the deep past and casts a glance forward into our possible futures. The exhibition grows out of a collection of research and work by local creatives and community groups\, which have collaboratively uncovered new ways of thinking about how our town and area grew and developed. \nThe research was initiated through a project in collaboration with Historic England over the summer of this year called Redcar Peep and the outcomes of this research will be presented along with artistic responses. Subjects explored include local prehistoric settlements\, the petrified forest\, literary histories\, stories of industry\, sport and the lives of those individuals who played a role in building Redcar’s history. It will explore how people from different backgrounds have responded to the sense of freedom that can come from living by the coast. \nRedcar Palace is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10am-4pm. There will be activities running throughout the exhibition\, so check out Redcar Palace instagram and facebook @redcarpalace for more details. \nRedcar Palace is an arts venue on the Redcar seafront which emerged during the pandemic and as a space to rethink how an arts organisation can build relations with the people around it through our exhibitions\, workshops and our honesty shop featuring work by over 60 locally based creatives. Tees Valley Arts joined the Arts Council National Portfolio programme in April 2023. \nOur regular programme of events are also still running throughout this time:\n• Blooming Youth Collective- Tuesday Evenings 5pm-7pm\n• Which Craft? Ladies- Wednesdays 11am-2pm\n• Redcar Life Drawing- Thursdays 6pm-8pm £10pp \nRedcar Palace 28-29 Esplanade Redcar TS10 3AE

SUMMARY:Fishing Now and Then
DESCRIPTION:Redcar has been a fishing town for at least 700 years and the knowledge of fishing these waters – the boats\, the fishing grounds\, the methods – have been passed down through generations of fishermen. Inshore fishing has seen many changes in traditions\, methods and craft as well as the impact of the changing environment. The fishers of this region have incredible stories to share about the boats\, the methods of fishing and the dangers. \nAs a final celebration of the Lemon Tops and Lobster Pots exhibition\, come and join us at Kirkleatham Museum to listen to Redcar Fishermen share their stories of the fishing\, the boats and the baithouses\, we’ll also be joined by Joe Redfern of Whitby Lobster Hatchery to learn about the sustainable future of fishing in these waters.

SUMMARY:A Wild Ride by Garth Bayley
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to the next exhibition at The Heritage Gallery at Cargo Fleet: A Wild Ride by Garth Bayley. \nThe exhibition will be open with free admission\, Monday – Friday\, 8.30am – 4.45pm\, with an opening evening from 5pm – 7pm on Thursday 19th October. \nThe opening offers a great opportunity to meet Garth over drinks & nibbles and ask any questions about the work on display. \nGarth arrived in the United Kingdom 15 years ago with his suitcase and a taste for adventure. The change from leaving South Africa and his previous career as a chef to become an international selling artist has not been without challenge. \nGarth’s love for people\, colour and movement is the foundation of his practice. His work originated in the subject of dance and he is still inspired by this. He recently had the opportunity to observe and sketch Northern Ballet (based in Leeds) during rehearsals for an upcoming show. These sketches will soon lead to a new series of paintings. \nGarth has documented several cycling races for a number of years now and his “painting a day” approach to following races such as the Tour de France\, the Giro d’Italia and our own Tours of Britain and Yorkshire has led to comprehensive body of work that collectors have snapped up from across the world. \nA third form of movement expressed in his painting comes from animals\, most frequently horses and horseracing. Inspiration drawn from the everyday completes the repertoire and transforms more static items such as buildings and the world around us into landscapes that capture a moment in time with evocative colour and movement.

SUMMARY:Luminarium – Architects of Air
DESCRIPTION:Enter a world of wonder as the amazing Terceredix Luminarium takes up residence in the grounds of Kirkleatham Museum. Be transported to a place of luminescent light and saturated colour in this incredible immersive installation. Explore the dazzling maze of winding paths and soaring domes. Get lost in a magical labyrinth of saturated light tunnels. Marvel as the vivid reflections of liquid colour spill across the curved walls. \nEach visitor has their own way of exploring the structure – some like to see every twist and turn; others like to find a quiet spot and let the luminarium work its magic as it soothes\, calms and enchants. We encourage you to explore in your own way! \nThere are five luminaria touring the world at any one time and since 1992 more than 3 million visitors in over 40 countries have been welcomed into Architects of Air’s monumental structures. The Terceredix is the newest addition to these incredible structures and we are delighted to bring this to Redcar – particularly as the inventor of this and all Luminaria Alan Parkinson was born and brought up in Darlington. \nChildren under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. \n11am – 6pm August 24 – 27\, 2023. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n
