SUMMARY:From the Earth Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Working with artists and communities from across Middlesbrough and Redcar & Cleveland\, All Year Round: The Flower Patch CIC have been exploring the variety of pigments/colours that can be extracted from natural materials (leaves\, flowers\, tree bark\, rocks\, earth) while exploring techniques for extraction such as soil chromatography\, mark making and steam dying. \nThrough a series of workshops natural materials were collected then processed to extract colour pigment. The process was documented throughout using photographs and video. Once a collection of pigments was secured\, participants have been invited to create either a group composition or individual pieces of artwork utilising the colour palette that has been created during the extraction processes\, the finished pieces are available to see in a short exhibition at the museum on Saturday 24th May and Sunday 25th May. \nAlongside the exhibition you will have the opportunity to join Nicky and team Patch making in your own charcoal and create your own composition using mark making techniques. \nNormal museum entry fee will apply\, workshops are included as part of this. \n\nAdult – £2\nChild (4-16 years old) – £1.50\nChild under 4 years old Free\nFamily (2 adults and 2 children or 1 adult and 3 children) – £5

SUMMARY:VE Day Celebrations
DESCRIPTION:THE 80th ANNIVERSARIES OF VICTORY IN EUROPE AND VICTORY OVER JAPAN \nThis year marks 80 years since Victory in Europe (VE) Day when the Second World War came to an end in Europe. The long-anticipated news resulted in millions celebrating the end of the war\, with street parties\, dancing and singing across the country. The war in the Far East did not end until 15 August 1945\, when Japan surrendered\, which was celebrated across the world as ‘Victory over Japan’ (VJ Day)\, the end of the Second World War. \nThe Second World War touched every aspect of life and had a devastating impact on those who experienced it\, and for the generations after. From the sailors\, soldiers and aviators who fought\, to children who were evacuated\, and all those who stepped into essential roles on the home front\, we owe our freedoms of today to the Second World War generation who 80 years ago paid the ultimate sacrifice in giving generations lasting peace. It will be a time for us to come together to listen to their stories and reflect on their values that ensured the Allied victory – service and selflessness across our nation. \nWe are hoping Street parties\, BBQs and community get togethers will be held across the Borough echoing the celebrations 80 years ago. \nIn support of any celebratory events\, you may hold Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council are waiving any costs incurred from road closure applications. \nWe are encouraging community get togethers and street parties to take place on Monday 5 May\, guidance can be found by clicking here and the form to fill in can be found here Street Party form road closure final 1. \nA useful interactive website has been launched which offers key information and resources\, including ways to get involved in the commemorations. The site features downloadable digital materials and an interactive map of events. Click here for more information. \nPlease visit the website to discover local events and add your own activities\, found out more about this significant anniversary and how to get involved. \nPlease return your road closure application forms no later than 2 weeks prior to your event. \nThe email address for completed forms is raswa@redcar-cleveland.gov.uk \nThere is a host of information on the Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council website regarding organising events and what need to be taken into consideration. We are celebrating our 10th birthday this year by bringing the show to the seaside in Redcar! \nThe Yorkshire Fossil Festival is a blend of entertainment and education and has engaged thousands of people from across the UK with Yorkshire’s amazing rocks and fossils\, as well as with nature\, landscapes and Earth heritage more broadly. Join us and our friends from across the UK as we show off our best fossils\, tell our worst dinosaur jokes\, and learn how to juggle geologically. If you’ve ever made a fossil discovery\, and wondered what it was\, our experts will be on hand to help. And if you’ve never made a fossil discovery\, now’s your chance to find out how! \n\n\n\nMonday 27th May – The Fossil Festival Field Day \n\n\n\nTo finish our 10th birthday weekend in style\, we’ll be offering a variety of fossil-flavoured field trips in Redcar & Cleveland and beyond.
