DESCRIPTION:This talk will encompass the excavations over 20 years that have revealed evidence for 5\,000 years of human activity.  The story will begin  in the Early Neolithic period\, (c.3\,900BC) when early settlers were pioneers in salt manufacture in Western Europe. The talk will include details of Bronze Age burial sites\, a major Iron Age settlement\, developing around AD70 into  a Roman farmstead salt manufacture\, pottery and jet production. In the Seventh Century AD\, this was the home of an Anglo-Saxon Princess\, buried on a bed. The soughing of the sea? \nElectronic music pioneers A Man Called Adam (think literal originators of Balearic Beats!) are back in their native North-East and looking to create a new piece of music with young musicians in Teesside. \nSally & Steve are running two three-hour sessions at TunedIn in Redcar on Wednesday 9 & Thursday 10 August.   Learn the art of deep listening (google it!) and how to repurpose non-musical sound.  Day 1: Capture everyday sounds\, from bingo callers to birdlife\, from weather fronts to checkout chats – to create a rich and distinctive sound portrait of the town. \nDay 2:  Sally and Steve will create beats from the gathered sounds and discuss how Hip-Hop artists use their own\, idiosyncratic experiences to craft their lyrics and sonic worlds. We encourage you to explore in your own way! \nThere are five luminaria touring the world at any one time and since 1992 more than 3 million visitors in over 40 countries have been welcomed into Architects of Air’s monumental structures. DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to the next exhibition at The Heritage Gallery at Cargo Fleet: The Art of Autonomous Serenity by Carol Shaw. \nThe exhibition will be open with free admission\, Monday – Friday\, 8.30am – 3pm\, with an opening evening from 5pm – 7pm on Thursday 14th September. \nThe opening offers a great opportunity to meet Carol over drinks & nibbles and ask any questions about the work on display. \nCarol says: \n“I have lived in the North East of England all my life and the diverse landscape has had a profound impact on my art. \nI love painting wildlife and the local area has offered a wide range of animal life to paint and study; from the wild Yorkshire moors with its hares\, to the foxes in Guisborough walkways\, right down to the coastal beach donkeys. They are all my go to subjects. \nI am a qualified art teacher and I have been lucky to work with children and develop their artistic skills. I am now concentrating on my own art and have been enjoying developing different media as I concentrate on my own art practice. \nAs a “people watcher”\, I enjoy the interaction between people\, especially in social environments\, hence my cafe paintings. I strive to achieve the emotional connection between people and their pets through my paintings trying to capture emotion and the bond between.” \nWe do hope you can make it to the opening and look forward to seeing you there.
