SUMMARY:A Dog's Life
DESCRIPTION:Our love of dogs has been part of our national identity for centuries and\, as the world’s most popular pet\, this obsession with our canine companions shows no sign of waning. There are an estimated 12 million dogs in the UK\, with roughly 36% of households owning a dog. \nThe ‘A Dog’s Life’ exhibition shows the work of international artists\, designers\, illustrators and photographers who use dogs as their subject matter and inspiration. Giving insight into the influence and impact that dogs have had on these artists’ lives and practice\, the show explores the bond between humans and their four-legged friends. \nAs well as a wide-ranging display of dog themed photography\, ceramics\, textiles\, prints and sculpture\, there will be lots of opportunities for visitors to get involved: There’s a ‘Name the Breed’ trail\, an interactive which allows visitors to test their knowledge of animated TV and film dog characters\, and there is a digital interactive where visitors can see what they’d look like as a dog. There will also be an area where visitors can display photos of their own dogs and have a go at drawing their own pooch’s portrait.

SUMMARY:VE Day Celebrations
DESCRIPTION:THE 80th ANNIVERSARIES OF VICTORY IN EUROPE AND VICTORY OVER JAPAN \nThis year marks 80 years since Victory in Europe (VE) Day when the Second World War came to an end in Europe. The long-anticipated news resulted in millions celebrating the end of the war\, with street parties\, dancing and singing across the country. The war in the Far East did not end until 15 August 1945\, when Japan surrendered\, which was celebrated across the world as ‘Victory over Japan’ (VJ Day)\, the end of the Second World War. \nThe Second World War touched every aspect of life and had a devastating impact on those who experienced it\, and for the generations after. From the sailors\, soldiers and aviators who fought\, to children who were evacuated\, and all those who stepped into essential roles on the home front\, we owe our freedoms of today to the Second World War generation who 80 years ago paid the ultimate sacrifice in giving generations lasting peace. It will be a time for us to come together to listen to their stories and reflect on their values that ensured the Allied victory – service and selflessness across our nation. \nWe are hoping Street parties\, BBQs and community get togethers will be held across the Borough echoing the celebrations 80 years ago. \nIn support of any celebratory events\, you may hold Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council are waiving any costs incurred from road closure applications. \nWe are encouraging community get togethers and street parties to take place on Monday 5 May\, guidance can be found by clicking here and the form to fill in can be found here Street Party form road closure final 1. \nA useful interactive website has been launched which offers key information and resources\, including ways to get involved in the commemorations. The site features downloadable digital materials and an interactive map of events. Click here for more information. \nPlease visit the website to discover local events and add your own activities\, found out more about this significant anniversary and how to get involved. \nPlease return your road closure application forms no later than 2 weeks prior to your event. \nThe email address for completed forms is raswa@redcar-cleveland.gov.uk \nThere is a host of information on the Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council website regarding organising events and what need to be taken into consideration.
