On your marks, get set… Go!
Guisborough is hosting the opening round of the Tour Series for the second year running when it welcomes the UK's leading televised cycle race series on Bank Holiday Monday (2nd May 2022).
The market town hosted the first-ever Yorkshire round of the team-based series in August 2021, which saw dramatic victories for eventual men's champions Ribble Weldtite Pro Cycling and the talented Great Britain Under-23 women's team.
On what promises to be a fun-packed, adrenaline-fuelled day, here is everything you need to know about the race.
The Tour Series will bring fun, fast and free cycling featuring the UK’s elite teams and riders racing through the streets of Guisborough as they compete against each other to become the overall champions and crowned the winners of The Tour Series 2022.
Established in 2009 and now in its thirteenth year, the 2022 Tour Series starts in Guisborough before subsequent rounds in Galashiels and Sunderland.
The competing teams can be found here at https://www.tourseries.co.uk/teams/
The start/finish line on Westgate will be known to many riders, as it is also where the East Cleveland Klondike GP one-day race historically started. A fast start to the lap will take the peloton onto Church Street – and past Gisborough Priory – before a sweeping run through Priory Close. Expect the battle for position to heat up once again Reid Terrace and Westgate Road throughout as riders seek to be best placed for the 150-metre run to the start/finish line.
The battle to win the 2021 Tour Series title will start with the women’s race at 4pm, followed by the men’s race at 6pm. Both races start and finish on Westgate.
The day itself will start at 12 noon with activities and entertainment across Guisborough’s Town Centre. A full schedule of the day's activities to be announced shortly.
There is ample space to get in on the race action! The route around Guisborough Town Centre is short, sharp and promises excitement wherever you choose to watch.
To help with the flow of pedestrians moving around the town centre, a one-way system will be in place; we ask that you follow the directional arrows and cross the route at the designated, stewarded crossing points.
Road Closures
To ensure the complete safety of participants and visitors, there will be temporary road closures in operation on the day.
Getting to Guisborough -
To help us stay green and to reduce our carbon footprint we encourage visitors to use alternative, eco-friendly modes of transport when travelling to Guisborough.
Cycling - Get into the cycling spirit and cycle or even walk into Guisborough. Free, stewarded bike parking will be available at Fountain Street Car Park throughout the day.
Public Transport – Travel sustainable and use public transport. Connect Tees Valley allows for quick and easy travel planning into Guisborough. Please note that due to road closures on the day some bus services will be re-directed and some bus stops suspended.
Driving – If arriving by car we strongly recommend using the FREE park and ride service available. We have two park and ride sites available from: the A173 just before Guisborough Forest & Walkway, Guisborough and from Redcar.
Park and Ride - A free park and ride service will operate from 11am with a shuttle bus service to and from the farmers field off Stokesley Road TS14 8HD. From the coast follow the A171 Middlesbrough Road, taking a left at the roundabout and road A173, after approximately 400m take your first left onto Stokesley Road and the car park will be located on your right hand side. From Teesside follow the A171 Middlesbrough Road East, turn right at the roundabout onto the A173 (signposted Pinchinthorpe), take the first left after 400m and the park and ride will be located on your right.
Buses will drop off and pick up from Fountain Street, Guisborough. Shuttles will continue to run every 15 minutes throughout the day until 8pm. A fully accessible bus will be available to use as part of the park and ride.
Please note that pushchairs will need to be collapsed to board the park and ride buses. If you do require more accessible car parking, this is available at Belmont House, but it is anticipated that this will fill up quickly. Disabled car parking is available in Fountain Street car park on a first come, first served basis.
No parking will be available at Guisborough Forest Walkway visitor centre car park, Patten Lane, Walkers Row, Church Square and Reid Terrace.
The public toilets on Fountain Street and Northgate will be open. Portaloo facilities will also be available at the park and ride car park and at Gisborough Priory.
