Christmas is a magical time of the year and as we head towards the month of mulled wine, mistletoe and memory-making, here’s what you can expect to see in the towns of Redcar and Cleveland…
Kick off the festive season at Redcar Lights Switch On, with live music, street performers, favourite festive characters, a giant snow globe, vintage fairground rides and inflatable curling. Enjoy a Christmas food and drink market, Santa visits, face painting and free crafts on Arriva’s Christmas bus, plus creative activities in the Sidequest Horsebox.
Live entertainment on the BBC Tees stage, hosted by Scott Makin, begins at 4pm, ahead of the lights switch-on at 5.30pm.

A magical meander along woodland paths to explore a world of fairies, elves and hobgoblins. Discover miniature forests and a majestic tree of mirrors; fish for stars and visit Hobgoblin Village. A Fairy Tale Christmas returns to Ormesby Hall for one final chapter, transforming its rooms into enchanting worlds inspired by beloved stories, including The Snow Queen, Alice in Wonderland and The Little Mermaid. Visitors of all ages can explore the beautifully decorated rooms, browse the second-hand bookshop and enjoy seasonal food and hot drinks in the café.

Explore Saltburn Ice Trail, an enchanted woodland adventure featuring nine sculptures by Sand In Your Eye. Enjoy a live ice carve, letters to Santa, storytelling, singalongs, festive markets, live music and walkabout characters. To celebrate the Year of Reading, the National Literacy Trust is providing book prizes for the first 1,000 people to return their completed trails to the library.

Enjoy the historic surroundings of Kirkleatham Museum with a weekend of Christmas magic featuring a festive market, musical entertainment, workshops and storytelling with The Christmas Fairy. There will also be visits to Santa in his grotto (ticketed).

The annual Christmas tractor run starts at the Tiger Inn, Easington and runs through Loftus, Liverton Mines, Skinningrove, Brotton, Saltburn, Skelton and back to Easington. The run will take approx. 2 hours, and this year’s event is in aid of multiple sclerosis. Come and show your support along the route.

Get into the festive spirit at Guisborough’s Christmas Festival, enjoy children’s entertainment, rides and live musical performances throughout the festival, and don’t forget to book to see Santa at his grotto at Sunnyfield House.
Redcar & Cleveland Council are delighted to once again support this much-loved event with artist-led workshops with community groups to create enchanted woodland themed costumes and woodland Many shops, cafes and restaurants will stay open during the evening too. The annual Boxing Day dip is organised by Redcar Rotary Club and sees hundreds of participants have a dip (not a swim). Always a great atmosphere, come along and support the participants, many of whom are sponsored and raising money for good causes.
Loftus Christmas Market and Fun Day, Sunday 29November - 11am-4pm
Enjoy a market, community fair, craft making and Santa’s grotto at Coronation Park, Westfield Terrace and Loftus Youth Centre, Duncan Place.
Step into a magical Christmas evening at Ormesby Hall. Join us for a late-night opening and a chance to see the house decorated for Christmas at night, where each room invites you to wander through a different fairy tale realm.
There will be live festive music during the evenings, Mrs Christmas telling stories in the library and the café will be selling seasonal food and drink, including crumble pots, mince pies and mulled wine, with marshmallow toasting to enjoy by the fire pit on the evenings.
Please note the garden will be closed on the evening and the house and café close at 7.30pm. Normal admission applies to access this event and no pre-booking is required.
Community Carol Service in St. Nicholas Church, Guisborough, Monday 7 December, 7pm
Carols will be accompanied by the Salvation Army Band and a collection will take place which will be split between the Town Mayor’s chosen charity The Mayor’s Community Children's Chest and St. Nicholas Church. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in the Christmas festivities and enjoy a mince pie and coffee after the service!
Loftus Poultry Run, Sunday 20, December 2026, 11am
Almost 400 runners will run this multi terrain festive race with excellent poultry prizes. The race has a minimum age limit of 17. Bookings to run in this race always sell out months in advance but come along and show your support for the participants.
