Dinosaurs

             

KEY STAGE: EYFS & 1 Main Curriculum Focus: English.  Cross-curricular opportunities: Maths, Science, Art, History, D.T, Geography. Key Learning Outcome: English: Correct choice & consistent use of present & past tense; capital letters; full stops; apostrophes, sentence sequencing to form a short narrative. Maths: Positional Language. Science: grouping according to what they eat. Art: colour, pattern, texture. History: awareness of past events beyond living memory. Design & Technology: select from & use tools to perform practical tasks. Geography: Dino & fossil finds in their own locality.

Dino Hunt

Using the woodland and garden areas of Kirkleatham Museum, pupils take part in a dinosaur hunt, finding up to 20 hidden Jurassic animals.

Each animal will be hidden in a different position and location, which pupils will mark out on a map of the hunt area. Once each dinosaur is found, pupils fill in a prescribed sentence, identifying the animal name, position and location.

This session lasts for 45 minutes and is suitable for 35 pupils - £45

Spotters Guide

To create a dinosaur guide – 1 page per pupil. Image of dinosaur to add labels to (head, tail, claws etc.). Use variety of art techniques to dinosaur skin (colour / pattern / texture). Categorise according to diet. Find out additional info about how their chosen dinosaur lived.

Dino Dig

Undertake an archaeological dig and find dinosaur skeletons.   Look at what is a fossil & where ‘local’ finds have been made.   Make a fossil, using air hardening clay (these would then be suitable for painting back in school).  Fossil rubbing.

This session lasts for 45 minutes and is suitable for 35 pupils - £1.50
