Welcome To Saltburn Cliff Tramway<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Saltburn Cliff Tramway opened in 1884 to replace a vertical hoist and is now the oldest water balanced funicular still in operation in Great Britain, linking the Victorian town of Saltburn<\/a> with the only remaining pleasure pier on the whole North East and Yorkshire coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

January 2026 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Saltburn Cliff Tramway is currently closed while it awaits the installation of two new replacement carriages. This follows the removal of the previous carriage, which marked the beginning of a major upgrade to the historic funicular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new carriages are being built off\u2011site and are scheduled to be installed in the coming months as part of the refurbishment, the much\u2011loved stained\u2011glass windows will be carefully reconditioned and fitted into the new carriage design, preserving the iconic look that visitors know and love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tickets to ride the tramway can be purchased on-site with cash or card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Saltburn Cliff Tramway Annual Ticket, entitles the ticket holder to unlimited travel on the Saltburn Cliff Tramway for 12 months from the date of purchase.*<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The annual ticket is not transferable to any other person \/ persons and tickets must only be used by the named person or persons.
The annual ticket is not valid for Santa\u2019s Grotto or any other special events that maybe held at Saltburn Cliff Tramway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
