The exhibition, featuring the Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum\u2019s explosive mining experience, was opened by the Bishop of Whitby, the Rt Revd Paul Ferguson and was attended by prominent figures from East Cleveland and the Diocese of York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The exhibition includes displays featuring aspects of ironstone mining and steel production in East Cleveland, along with demonstrations of mining tools which you will have a rare opportunity to handle when Covid restrictions allow. However, the star of the exhibition is an 8m long tunnel where you can experience a mine \u2019explosion\u2019 firsthand. Will you be the one chosen to trigger the explosion?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018The exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to keep the iron and steel heritage of East Cleveland fresh in people\u2019s minds whilst we build our amazing new museum, opening next year\u2019 says Graham Banwell, Director of the mining museum. \u2018We are very grateful to the Diocese of York and St Helen\u2019s congregation for allowing us to use this historic church over the summer\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018We are genuinely delighted to offer a home to our local museum for their explosive summer exhibition\u2019 said Father Adam Gaunt, Rector of Loftus, Carlin How and Skinningrove. Saint Helen\u2019s Parish Church is a monument to the Iron and Steel Heritage of Teesside and an integral attraction in its own right. This opportunity also allows the to see, visit, and use the Church.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The exhibition is based in the wheelchair accessible, St Helen\u2019s parish church Carlin How and Skinningrove between July 7th and September 30th 2021. It is open from 11am to 3pm, Wednesday to Saturday, with our explosive pop-up museum tunnel, information about mining and our new museum, and the rare opportunity to handle ironstone mining tools. Information about the history of Saint Helen\u2019s Church will also be available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are you interested in volunteering for the museum?
