Guisborough

The gateway to the North York Moors National Park, Guisborough is a crowning glory for Redcar & Cleveland.

The quaint but bustling Westgate plays host to national chains and independent boutiques, boosted by regular open-air markets and a welcoming atmosphere. The world famous Gisborough* Priory, the remains of a 14th-century church, stands guard over the town. An outstanding example of early gothic architecture, the Priory attracts visitors from all over the world. The Priory is a relaxing sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle, and plays host to a programme of family events and musical performances throughout the year.             The nearby Guisborough Forest & Walkway Visitor Centre is a useful stopping-off point before venturing off into the forest. With an orienteering course, trim trail, sculpture trial and play area, it is a great place for a family day out. Guisborough forest offers mountain biking and cycling routes and is an ideal place to explore and view the surrounding landscape.            To the east of the town, Gisborough Hall Hotel provides some of the finest accommodation in the region and is a popular wedding venue.         *Gisborough is the historic spelling of Guisborough and is still used on some occasions.
