This Ambassador event was about the exciting new ‘Clean Energy Education Hub’ at Redcar & Cleveland College.
The £3.2M hub will train students for careers in our growing green industries – so that they can directly benefit from jobs being created on our doorstep.
Opening the event, Redcar | Cleveland Place Board Chair, Dr Angela Brockbank welcomed attendees to the College Lecture Theatre, introduced the speakers and gave an overview of the key objectives for the Redcar | Cleveland place marketing programme for the year ahead.
Next up, Executive Principal at Redcar & Cleveland College, Jason Faulkner gave a presentation where he talked about the background to the new training facility, and its importance to young people in our area, to enable them to get the right skills to forge careers at new clean energy projects happening in Redcar and Cleveland.
The second key speaker was Catherine Clennett representing Redcar Town Deal Board. Catherine gave an overview of the Redcar Town Deal projects, of which the Clean Energy Education Hub is one. Catherine gave a presentation which gave an update on the fantastic Town Deal projects happening, including the Coastal Activity Hub at Coatham; the new ‘Rediscover Redcar’ town centre service, the Culture and Leisure attraction and high street improvements.
£2.4M for the project has come from the Government’s Town Deal fund. Darren Winter, chair of the Redcar Town Deal Board, said of the project: “On behalf of the Town Deal Board, I am delighted that funds from the Town Deal has supported the build of the Clean Energy Education Hub, helping young people in their careers.”
Closing the speaker part of the event, Richard Baker, Place Marketing Manager, thanked everyone for attending, and thanked the speakers and College staff for their hospitality. Richard also gave a brief overview and update on the place marketing activity, including new place videos, events, plans to get young people involved more and a new place storybook.
Attendees then had a tour of the new Clean Energy Education Hub, and College staff were on hand to answer any questions.
