Redcar and Cleveland Voluntary Development Agency

We interviewed Jacqui Hutchinson and Joe Petch from Redcar and Cleveland Voluntary Development Agency, learn about their organisation, and their experience in the Palace Hub below!

Can you tell me about your organisation?

We’re Redcar and Cleveland Voluntary Development Agency, the local infrastructure organisation for all of Redcar and Cleveland. We’re also a registered charity, focusing on social action. We offer practical support for community groups, charities, and social enterprises. We also offer a number of different projects, which include: sustainable transport, education, health and wellbeing – we are very much centred around supporting and acknowledging the Redcar and Cleveland voice.

What brought you to the Palace Hub?

We moved into the Palace Hub in 2018 as it’s situated in the heart of the community, and it is very accessible. The building is also a presence, people notice it as they walk by, often people tell us that they recognise the centre, but have not been inside.

What do you enjoy most about working here at the Palace Hub?

In our offices, we have some fantastic views of the seaside, whenever anybody visits, they always make a comment about the view! The building is very accessible, with great working spaces, and we have three of them within the building. There is also a diverse range of businesses in the Palace Hub, so you never know who you’re going to bump into! It’s a very friendly atmosphere, it’s great to talk to all the other organisations in here.

What do you love most about Redcar and Cleveland?

Jacqui said: “I am a proper Redcar and Cleveland girl, I grew up in New Marske, moved to Redcar, and have been here my whole life. My eldest son actually moved to Barrow, but has relocated back home to Redcar in light of the investment coming into the area!”

Joe said: “I grew up in Middlesbrough, but I love working in Redcar and Cleveland, the beach is definitely my favourite part about the area! It’s a great community in Redcar, everyone knows each other here and the people are very friendly and approachable.”
