Fun for all at The Mighty Weekend

Music lovers, sports fans and food fanatics will be spoilt for choice at Redcar and Cleveland’s Mighty Weekend.

Pop music stars, rock band tribute acts, tasty treats, beach parties and a sporting challenge are all on offer during three action-packed days beginning on Friday 26 July and ending with a spectacular firework display at Gisborough Priory on the Sunday.

Councillor Karen King, Deputy Leader of Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, said:

“There really is something for everyone at The Mighty Weekend.

“We’ve been working with our partners to develop a packed programme of fun for all ages, right across the borough.

“It’s the biggest weekend of our year and we’re sure everyone will have a great time.”

The Mighty Weekend -Proms in the Priory

The Mighty Weekend schedule:

Friday 26 July

• Summer Sounds 70s and 80s Tribute Music Festival (5pm – 11pm)
Gisborough Priory hosts the biggest tribute music festival in the North East.
• Clubland on the Beach 3.0 (4pm – 11pm)
Hit the golden sands of Majuba beach for a night of amazing club tracks by Special D, N-Trance and Micky Modelle.

Saturday 27 July

• We Love the 90s (2pm – 11pm)
Chart toppers Atomic Kitten headline our biggest beach party as We Love the 90s takes over Majuba Beach. Joining Atomic Kitten are Gareth Gates, Five and S Club 3.
• Summer Sounds Tribute Festival (5pm – 11pm)
Amazing tribute acts from all over the UK come together at Gisborough Priory to pay homage to pop and rock greats including Queen, UB40, Take That, Bon Jovi and Bruno Mars

Sunday 28 July

• Redcar Sprint Triathlon (9.30am start)
Cheer on the competitors at the annual Redcar Sprint Triathlon as they tackle a challenging open water swim before cycling and running around the closed road circuit in central Redcar
• Saltburn Food Festival (10am – 6pm)
The ever-popular food festival returns to Saltburn featuring an array of intercontinental food and drink and some surprising works of art.
• Proms in the Priory (6pm – 10.30pm)
The Mighty Weekend draws to a close with Proms in the Priory as the London Gala Orchestra fill the historic Gisborough Priory with classical music before a firework extravaganza draws the Mighty Weekend to a close.

Free bus services

A free bus service will operate from Redcar Central Station (picking up at West Dyke Road South Car Park adjacent to the station) and Majuba Car Park. The service will run on a loop starting at 9.05am with the last bus heading back to Redcar Central at 12.40pm for those watching the Redcar Sprint Triathlon.
Free travel to and from Guisborough and Saltburn is available on the ‘Festival Bus’, a park and ride service running between Fountain Street Car Park, Guisborough and the Saltburn Food Festival. The Festival Bus will run every fifteen minutes starting at 9.30am with the last bus leaving Saltburn for Guisborough at 5.30pm.
After the Proms draws to a close, a free night will run from Priory Fish Shop (just outside Gisborough Priory) taking to Gisborough Hall in Guisborough, Station Street in Saltburn, Markse High Street and Redcar Clock in Redcar, as well as bus stops en route.
