Saltburn has won the Blue Flag award, Keep Britain Tidy’s highest accolade, for the third year running. Saltburn beach is just one of four in Yorkshire, six in the North East and 76 in England to receive the award. We’re also delighted to share that Redcar beach also won a UK Seaside Award for maintaining the highest of environmental standards.
The Blue Flag is given for high-quality seawater, cleanliness and beachside amenities, whilst the Seaside Award recognises and rewards beaches for high standards of beach management and water quality standards.
“Everyone involved can be very proud – these awards are not given lightly” said Councilor Wayne Davies, Cabinet Member for Economic Development at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council. “It’s wonderful for Saltburn and Redcar beaches to be awarded these awards at a time when more and more people are choosing to holiday at home.”
“It’s great to be able ensure our visitors that they will be enjoying the best our coastline. Thousands of people in the borough and the wider region love those beaches and I know everyone will be grateful for the hard work that goes in to keeping them clean and looking spectacular.”
“Our officers work hard but we don’t do it alone. There is an army of volunteers who litter pick and go the extra mile right through the year to help keep the beaches looking great. They are all heroes. I’d also like to thank our dedicated partners, including Northumbrian Water, the Environment Agency, Keeping it Clean At Saltburn and the RNLI, who do so much to make sure the highest standards are being met.”
