The remains of two boats have been revealed on Redcar beach, sparking a mystery in the town.
No one knows anything about them, with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council’s Facebook page expressing the hope that the boats’ occupants made it land in better shape than their vessels!
Earlier this year the remains of a 6,000-year-old forest were exposed after storms blew away large quantities of sand on the same part of the beach. While we’re confident these boats are a lot younger than 6,000, they’re still an intriguing find and show how unpredictably fun and interesting seaside life can be.
UPDATE: There’s rumour that the remains of this ship may have belonged to a whaling vessel, the “Esk”, which was reported ‘lost, returning at Redcar’ all the way back in 1826! How interesting!
