Brilliant news for Redcar and Cleveland as the Coastal Activity Hub is given the green light with planning approval as part of the £25 million Redcar Town Deal!
The approval of the hub is great news for residents as Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council’s planning committee permitted the facility’s construction on Thursday 10 November, which will be based on Redcar’s developing seafront, with work beginning early 2023.
The hub may provide various options of activities to the people of Redcar and Cleveland, including windsurfing, kiteboarding, horse-riding, running, cycling and yoga; not to mention the competitions and events that the hub could be host to, some of which involve festivals and triathlons.
The development of Redcar is not lost among locals and investors, as seen through the opening of ‘The Regent’ cinema and plans for an 18-hole adventure golf course and play area enhancing the appearance of Redcar’s coastline which has much more to come.
Located in a shipping container village, the facility is perfect for a meeting place in a more informal environment, or a place to host schools, community groups, families, and can provide multipurpose services to the public.

Along with Redcar’s existing competitive sports event offering, the Coastal Activity Hub, due for opening in summer 2023, will help make Redcar a destination competitive sports town.”
Cllr Chris Gallacher, Cabinet Member for Economic Development at the council, said: “It’s great news that the Coastal Activity Hub has been approved, which will boost tourism and give our residents a fantastic facility to use all year round with the family. We’d like to thank everyone who took part in the consultation exercise before this went to planning, and we look forward to more conversations as the project develops. Working in partnership with the Redcar Town Board, we have an opportunity to deliver a number of projects to increase tourism and provide economic opportunities for our residents, not only in Redcar, but the wider borough.”
