Enjoy the fresh sea air
Redcar and Cleveland’s coastline is one of astonishing contrasts – dramatic sea cliffs, sweeping bays and 8 miles of unbroken sands stretching from South Gare to Saltburn-by-the-Sea.
Each stretch of beach offers something new, as well as traditional seaside charm. Stroll along Redcar’s Esplanade or venture up the 80ft high Redcar Beacon where you can enjoy stunning views of Redcar seafront. Two miles south of Redcar is Marske-by-the-Sea, a quieter part of the coast that continues onto the Saltburn-by-the-Sea.
Walk down Saltburn’s magnificent 600ft long victorian pier, the sole surviving example on England’s north-east coast; or walk the coastal path atop impressive Huntcliff, which towers over Saltburn’s sand and shingle beach. Cattersty Sands in Skinningrove is a long stretch of golden sandy beach, secluded with rocks and a pier.
The Redcar and Cleveland coastline is a haven for water sports enthusiasts. You can experience the thrills of boogie boarding, surf skiing or windsurfing; sailing or fishing. In fact the waves are so good in this area that it really is ‘surf central’ for the North East.
