How can we be good in a world that makes us so angry?

Supermarket driver John and property manager Anita spend their working days in Hull’s endless traffic, each trying to keep a step ahead of modern life. Driven wild by substitute tomatoes and dodgy plumbing, tensions erupt when they collide on a busy roundabout, with devastating consequences.

Biting Point is a brand-new play about road rage, performed in a car park in Redcar. It mixes live theatre with original music and sound design, experienced through headphones. This is a story that asks big questions about class, race and anger in Britain today. It’s about the communities we belong to and how the constant pressure we’re all under can turn us into people we don’t want to be.

While waiting for the show to begin, audiences can also enjoy a free cup of tea, and take in a pre-show exhibition and zine curated by artist Rachael Abbey, with contributions from Jay Mitra and Grace Waga Glevey.

Guidance:

  • 75 minutes, no interval.
  • Suitable for ages 14 and above.
  • Contains strong language, racism, reference to the 2024 riots, alcohol use and a dying parent.

About Middle Child:

“Middle Child are a new writing theatre company rooted in Hull. We bring people together for unforgettable experiences full of big ideas.

Every day we work towards a fair and equitable world where anyone’s story can be told and heard. We commission the writers of tomorrow to tell untold stories that make sense of the world today.  We set fire to expectations of what a night at the theatre can be. From electrifying gig theatre in Hull nightclubs to drag inspired cabaret in London and family shows in Salford parks, we deliver unmissable performances in unexpected places.

Our award-winning work is underpinned by our commitment to investing in local people, providing opportunity without having to leave the city. From our Fresh Ink: Hull Playwriting Festival to our Theatre Library, and renowned workshop programme we provide accessible routes into the industry.

We always prioritise wellbeing, in the stories we tell, the artists we develop and the people we employ. The social value of increasing access to great art drives everything we do.  Middle Child are a registered charity, an Arts Council England national portfolio organisation and receive significant support from Hull City Council. We are generously supported by our Middle Child Mates.”
