7 things for families to do this Halloween half-term

Autumn half-term has arrived and parents are frantically searching for ways to entertain their children.

Luckily, there’s plenty of fun for all the family throughout Redcar and Cleveland. Here’s a list of what’s on in our borough over the coming week…

Ormesby by Candlelight

Experience Ormesby Hall in a different light. With the shutters closed and the lights off, only candlelight will guide you and your family through this historic mansion.

Time: 11am – 4pm

Cost: Normal admission applies

Saturday 26 October

Enchanted Halloween Ball at North Shire

The enchanted North Shire in Liverton is hosting a magical party. You’ll find fairies and fun-filled festivities for all the family. The evening will include a magical party with a DJ and glowsticks, a wand making workshop, Witches and Wizards Hat workshops, with the opportunity to make your own dream catchers, glitter face painting, a slice of pizza and a soft drink!

Time: 6pm – 9pm

Cost: £10

North Shire at Halloween

Sunday 27 October

Hallo-teering at Roseberry Topping

Join this fun three-mile Halloween-themed walk at the famous Roseberry Topping. Find the symbols and solve the puzzle to win treats. Feel free to wear fancy dress; there will be a prize for the best costume! All funds raised will go directly to Cancer Research UK’s scientists, supporting their life-saving research.

Time: Come along between 11am and 2.30pm to register and take part

Cost: £5 for adults, £3 for children

Monday 28 October

Marske Junior Brass Band Concert

Join the magnificent Marske Junior Brass Band in Saltburn Library. The band will perform a fun musical concert for families, with lots of audience participation. There will even be a chance to try out some instruments, if you fancy yourself as a musician!

Time: 1pm – 2pm

Cost: Free

Wednesday 30 October

Halloween Craft Sessions

Bring the children to Marske Library for this spooky-themed craft session. Get in touch with your creative side and create a ghoulish masterpiece.

Time: 1pm – 3pm

Cost: Free

There’s also a session at Loftus Library from 10.30am until 12pm. Children must be accompanied by an adult and booking is advisable. Call 01287 640582.

Thursday 31 October

Scream Factory Twilight Tour

Visit Kirkleatham Museum and Grounds to experience the multi-award winning Scream Factory. The Twilight Tour is perfect for families with young children. Don’t worry, there will be no scares!

Time: Varies (30 minute slots)

Cost: £8 per child, £4 for adults

Saturday 2 November

Redcar’s Alternative Market

The first Saturday of each month brings an alternative town market to Redcar. This crafty market features arts, crafts, collectables, vintage items, antiques, jewellery and anything else that’s a bit different.

Time: 9am – 4pm

Cost: Free
