School full of stars, Redcar on the box and join us at Kirkleatham Museum… it’s Friday Five

Our Friday Five round-up this week starts with the amazing place that is Newcomen Primary School in Redcar.

Recently named among the top 250 state primaries in the country by the Sunday Times, headteacher Kinga Pusztai shared some of the school’s secrets last week during a tour.

She said: “It is the remarkable children that make this school such an extraordinary place. We provide every child with the highest standard of education because they deserve the very best and every opportunity to flourish in life.”

You can read more in the local media here.

2. Next up, it was great to learn of more recognition for the team behind The Mighty Redcar. Director Dan Dewsbury and co were winners at the Royal Television Society’s Craft and Design awards. There is a small error on the trophy, but it’s getting fixed so 72 Films correctly gets the plaudits!

3. Loftus was full of Christmas cheer last Friday and the lights switch-ons continue this weekend in New Marske (tonight), Saltburn (Saturday) and Carlin How (Sunday). You can find full details here.

4. We’ve mentioned previously how a crew from BBC Countryfile spent time in Redcar recently.

Our beautiful beach can be seen on the show this Sunday at 5.20pm on BBC One.

5. And finally, it’s not too late to book your place to join us at Tuesday’s Ambassador event at the Steel Stories exhibition at Kirkleatham Museum. It’s free and full details are here.
