Beboptical Illusion is the 2nd trio album and the 3rd studio album featuring Gaz as a band leader. This is a turning point for the trio as it features almost entirely original music.The album is diverse, featuring 2 contrafacts, a 14 bar blues, a haunting ballad, Latin influenced grooves, a New Orleans inspired tune and a modal piece that nods gently to Gaz’s time working with the Matthew Halsall band. The album also contains elements of Free playing all wrapped up in lashings of swinging Bop vocabulary.
