Redcar has been a fishing town for at least 700 years and the knowledge of fishing these waters – the boats, the fishing grounds, the methods – have been passed down through generations of fishermen. Inshore fishing has seen many changes in traditions, methods and craft as well as the impact of the changing environment. The fishers of this region have incredible stories to share about the boats, the methods of fishing and the dangers.
As a final celebration of the Lemon Tops and Lobster Pots exhibition, come and join us at Kirkleatham Museum to listen to Redcar Fishermen share their stories of the fishing, the boats and the baithouses, we’ll also be joined by Joe Redfern of Whitby Lobster Hatchery to learn about the sustainable future of fishing in these waters.
