School’s out so it’s time explore Redcar & Cleveland’s extensive variety of places to visit and activities to take part in. Whatever the weather, rain or shine, it’s time for a week of adventures with your family and friends!

Here we’ve put together some of the top activities we’d recommend for all the family to enjoy, but you’ll find a wealth of information on our website to inspire you… so get browsing!

Redcar Kite Festival & Yorkshire Fossil Festival

From the 25th – 27th of may two spectacular festivals are being held in Recar and Celeveland!

Prepare to see kites of all shapes, sizes and colours take to the skies for two days of exhilarating aerial displays over Majuba beach at the Redcar Fossil Festival. Although the kites will be the star attraction of the festival you can expect to see a new artisan food and beverage market, live music, performances, and street theatre, as well as plenty of exciting activities and workshops to enjoy including creating beach art using natural materials and your very own windmills, too!

The Yorkshire Fossil Festival will be filled with performances, workshops, educators and entertainers, the as it brings all things fossiliferous to Redcar over the late May bank holiday weekend. Join fossil enthusiasts from across the UK as we show off our best fossils, tell our worst dinosaur jokes, and learn how to juggle geologically.


Ormesby Hall

Home to the Pennyman family, Ormesby Hall, garden and parkland is a green oasis and this half term they have a fantastic line up of activities for all ages.

Musical Mayhem, pond dipping, beautiful scenic walks around the estate and, of course, the enchanting hall and gardens are just some of the experiences to be had! Go wild in the natural play area, stop by the model railway layouts and enjoy imaginative play – whatever the season, there’s so much in store to keep the family entertained at Ormesby Hall.


Kirkleatham Museum & Grounds

In true style of Kirkeatham Museum, they have activities galore this half term, including over the full bank holiday weekend!

The fantastic 100 Years of Fashion exhibition, a teddy trail around the museum, the woodland trail and play park can be enjoyed free of charge (plus, parking at the museum is free, too)

In addition there is Tuesday and Thursday Crafts @ Kirkleatham from 10am – 3pm, Wednesday Saxon handling from 10am – 2pm and on Friday, experience the museum in all the colours of the rainbow with the Curious Takeover, which includes a range of free creative activities for all the family, colourful arts and crafts, Storytimes, workshops, dress up, family trails, face painting and much more, 10am – 4pm.


Land of Iron

Situated on the site of Loftus Mine – the first mine to open in Cleveland – Land of Iron celebrates the legacy of ironstone mining. This state-of-the-art visitor attraction explores the industrial heritage of Teesside.

On Wednesday 29th May they bring to you a Stone Age family half term craft session. Travel back in time at this drop-in crafting session for all the family. Activities include colouring-in, mask making and building your own clay Stonehenge in time for the solstice!

Drop in at any time between 10.30am and 2pm to join in the fun. Pay What You Decide by donation on the day. No need to book.

Redcar RacesZetland Gold Cup Family Day

Redcar Racecourse offers 18 days of action-packed horse racing from April to November. The unique atmosphere created at Redcar Racecourse, coupled with excellent facilities, guarantees that you’ll have a truly memorable day out!

Join them for the Zetland Gold Cup Family Day on Monday 27th May to celebrate the bank holiday weekend.

The Highlight of the Spring racing season, The Zetland Gold Cup is one of the jewels in Redcar’s Crown. Alongside spectacular quality racing, they’ll have loads of FREE entertainment for the whole family! With bouncy castles, face painters, and child entertainers, it’s an afternoon you don’t want to miss out on.

FREE entry for kids under 18yrs.


The Regent Cinema

Throughout the school holidays, Redcar’s Regent Cinema’s will be showing some great family movies. Sit back in comfort with your popcorn and immerse yourself in the big screen.

Some of the highlights include ‘IF’, a live-action/cg-animation hybrid family comedy, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, the fourth film in the epic Apes franchise and The Garfield Movie about the world-famous, Monday-hating, lasagne-loving indoor cat.


Kirkleatham Owl Centre

Established in 1990 The Owl Centre is one of the world’s oldest dedicated owl centres, although these days they have lots more animals besides owls!

The centre is open right across the Half Term Holiday, including bank Holiday Monday with lots on including: 12:00pm Owl Meet & Greet, 2:30pm Daily Flying Display, 3:00pm Meerkat & Porcupine Feed & Talk and all-day children’s crafts.

Get hand stamp on entry to come & go all day as you please, 10:00am to 4:30pm.


There’s plenty more to see and do in Redcar and Cleveland over the holidays. Whether you want to get out and about on a stroll through our beautiful woodlands, enjoy a day at the beach under the summer sun, or take the kids on a trip to a museum or for a splash in the pool – whatever you fancy, you’ll find it on our dedicated Things to See and Do page.
