Starting Point: Cat Nab Fish Bar forecourt
Start Time: 6am, walkers must not leave the start area before then.
Finish Time: 9pm at the latest
Walkers wishing to finish in reasonable light must do so by 9pm and will therefore have to average 2.5 miles per hour.
Sunset is 8pm. Dusk is 8.40. From Hazel Grove bottom there is lighting along the Promenade.
Walkers unable to maintain this rate and arrive in daylight should consider the East Loop on this day.
A walk-through History, the Langbaugh Loop takes the walker through the very best of scenery and natural beauty of the area, with many reminders of its long history.
The Langbaugh Loop is an open challenge long distance walk of 38 miles, conceived in 1986 by Phillip Thomson and Captain Mike Sellars to encourage access to many outstanding features of this diverse area of coast and countryside and acquiring its name from the old Wapentake.
The Loop has a circular route, encompassing spectacular scenery, including sandy coastal paths, the highest cliff edges in the country, rich agricultural land, high rugged moors thick with heather, dense pine forests and ancient woods. It covers an area rich in historical interest, from bronze and iron age burial mounds, sites of Roman lookout posts, Viking founded villages, Norman strongholds and down through the ages of industrial Teesside to the town of Saltburn.
The Loop is designed for walkers of varying abilities, but all should be relatively fit and adept at map reading.
The Mayor of Redcar & Cleveland will be raising funds on this day to contribute to his chosen charities.
This is an opportunity for other walkers to raise funds for their nominated charity, even by just walking the first section.
Preparation
All walkers are advised to start well prepared.
Conduct
The Loop has been designed for enjoyment of walking and is not a race.
Please observe the rules of the countryside and respect the property of landowners. Leave no litter, close all gates and use stiles if provided.
Safety
Please take care, especially along the cliff paths and hill areas.
The Loop creators accept no responsibility for any injury or damage to property.
All walkers starting the walk must accept that safety is their own responsibility.
No one should attempt a long-distance walk if not physically prepared.
Consider walking parts of the route in advance, which you may not be familiar with.
Ensure that someone is aware of your intention to be walking on the day, and a rough guide to where you should be at any time.
Make sure your mobile phone number is provided.
Be prepared to stop or turn back if the weather is against you.
Check out the weather on the day.
A useful web site for information for walkers is Adventure Smart
Route Marking
As far as possible the route has been way-marked to assist you.
First Aid Information
All walkers should take adequate precaution for their own safety.
Consideration should be given to appropriate clothing, waterproof and windproof for staying warm and dry, and appropriate footwear for the varying terrain.
Please consider taking a safety kit, which could include;
First Aid kit, Map and Compass, Whistle, Mobile Phone (although connection may not always be possible), Head torch.
Completion Certificates
Will be presented to all walkers completing either the whole Loop or the East Loop or Section 1.
Check Points
There are no Check Points on this day as the walk is an informal opportunity to complete either the Full Loop, East Loop, or Section 1 on the same day as the Mayor of Redcar & Cleveland is walking.
Badges/Car Stickers
Loop Badges and Loop Car Stickers are available for purchase on the day or subsequently.
Route
Please follow the route described in the Loop brochure.
Make sure you follow the start section correctly by taking the steps behind the Ship Inn at Saltburn. Take the cliff path out of Skinningrove. Go up Roseberry Topping and follow the indicated route down to Newton Under Roseberry as the National Trust is undertaking a major refurbishment currently. Follow the route over Beacon Moor before entering Errington Wood.
Refreshment
Adequate provision for sustenance during the walk should be considered.
You may have a support team who can meet you at scheduled crossing points to your choice.
Registration
Although this is not a formal organised walk, in order for Completion Certificates to be provided, details of those walkers intending to raise funds for their charity on the day, either by walking the Full Loop, the East Loop or Section 1, should be left with Saltburn Library.
A brief form for completion is available on request, in person at Saltburn Library or by emailing saltburnlibrary@redcar-cleveland.gov.uk
Completion of Registration can be undertaken from a list opening on Monday 2nd March and closing on Friday 27th March.
