Redcar Kite Festival

Redcar Kite Festival

6th – 7th June 2026, Majuba Beach, Redcar

Redcar Kite Festival returns to the skies above Majuba Beach and there is so much going on! The free family-friendly festival will welcome some of the largest and most spectacular kites in the world, celebrating Redcar’s natural environment as the wind whips off the sea and sends the kites spiralling skyward in a spectacular display of colour and movement.

The tide times this year mean the kites will be in the sky from 12 noon to 6pm and, with even more beach arenas, the festival will be bigger than ever with even more kites in the sky flown by pilots from Northern Kite Group.

Look out for:
• Giant inflatable kites including some larger – than – life cartoon characters • Kite ballet to music • Stunt kites • Inflatable kites and Rainbow Deltas – a chance for children to fly a kite.

There will also be two days of free workshops in our Marquees-by-the-Sea including kite making workshops; fossils; rock pool schools; printmaking and more.

The Stories by the Shore tent will celebrate the National Literary Trust’s Year of Reading with some exciting storytelling sessions with Lady Lemon Top, Captain Plim and his fishy first mate Sole and many others.  And there will be some amazing walkabout performers and musicians including local favourites Whippet Up.

The main BBC Tees music stage features a fantastic line up of local and regional talent and acoustic performers will also be performing on the bandstand.

There are dozens of street food and drink stalls serving up everything from parmos to cheese toasties, gourmet burgers to hog roast; wood-fired pizza to Vietnamese; fried chicken to Indian Street Food; Korean corndogs to crepes; craft beers to cocktails and loaded fries to gyozas and bao buns.  Many of these will also be at Majuba Street Market on the eve of Kite Festival.

On site face paint, henna and glitter bars will offer glitzy festival makeovers and vintage fairground rides bring fun for all the family.

New for 2026, they’re bringing you dedicated Facebook and Instagram pages. Follow along for the very latest news, updates and highlights.

Tips and Tricks for Kite Flying

YES:AVOID:
Flying in a big open space, avoiding other people or any animals. Making sure to stay away main roads and railways.Flying in storming weather! Wet kites can conduct electricity and in storms you could get zapped by lighting.
Find a flat area where there’s nothing to trip over whilst flying your kite.Flying near power lines! If you get your kite caught, don’t try and retrieve it. Your next kite will be better, because you will still be alive to fly it.
Find spot where you’re away from any big hills or buildings so the wind isn’t messed up and you can fly better.Don’t fly near trees and buildings where you could get caught, endanger others or frighten animals.
Fly your kite on a day where the wind is just right, not too windy and not to calm.Avoid flying within 5km (3miles) of an airfield and don’t fly higher than 60 metres unless you have express permission from the Civil Aviation Authority.
Make sure you have a good time and have fun flying your kite!
