Friday Five – 20 March

Friday Fives are going to be a bit different for a while. We’ll still do our best to bring you the top things that are happening in Redcar and Cleveland each week, but these will inevitably be less about events and will lean more towards the things that people and organisations are doing to help each other through the difficult times we’re all facing.

So, what about this week? We’ve noticed lots of things happening – things being set up to support people and businesses doing their best to adapt to the situation they’re facing – here are some…

1 Business support – the Business Redcar | Cleveland team is on hand to help businesses with questions about accessing support and information. They set up a special webpage this week to provide online help and signposting. Support is also on offer from Tees Valley Combined Authority – details here.

2. Richard recently went to see Rebecca Dale, who has only just opened her ‘Yoga & a Brew’ business in Redcar in the last few weeks. Rebecca had to make the difficult decision to cancel classes in person, but has taken to her social profiles this week, such as Yoga & a Brew facebook, to share yoga classes that people can do at home – we’re sure that in return people will support Rebecca when she’s able to restart the classes in her premises at Turner Street.

3. Louise Holland put a call out on twitter this week asking for community organisations in Redcar and Cleveland who are offering support to elderly/vulnerable people during the pandemic to get in touch – please get in touch with Louise – https://twitter.com/HollyBerryBooks if you can help.

4. Lots of businesses and organisations are adapting their operations to help people who are needing to observe the social distancing measures more stringently; and at the same time providing an opportunity to generate much needed income for their business in these difficult times. We’d like to put together a webpage on this fantastic activity – please send brief details to ambassadors@redcar-cleveland.gov.uk and we’ll shout about it where we can. Please bear in mind, we’ll only be able to cover things that connect into government advice and guidelines, and that are operating safely.

5. Finally, we posted on social media earlier – we all need to remember to look after ourselves and each other at the moment, and that starts with maintaining our mental and physical wellbeing. It’s going to be testing times for us all for a while, but in true Redcar and Cleveland spirit, if we can all pull together it’ll make things much easier. We hope you can have a nice weekend, and hopefully get out for some fresh air and enjoy the bright sunshine that is forecast.
