Working in partnership with CAMpRA, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council’s Visitor Destination team is inviting businesses across Redcar and Cleveland to explore the opportunity of creating safe overnight parking spaces for self‑contained motorcaravans, known as Aires. These simple, low‑maintenance facilities can provide a year‑round income boost for your business.
What is an ‘Aire’?
An Aire is a safe parking space for a motorhome/campervan (motorcaravan) where the occupants are able to sleep, relax, prepare and eat food within the confines of the vehicle. Aires are not campsites – No camping is permitted i.e., no tables and chairs placed outside the vehicle and time on site is limited.
Creating a basic Aire simply involves offering safe overnight parking. There is no requirement to offer additional services, however support and guidance is available to help you develop an Aire that suits your site and needs.
Benefits of creating an Aire
With over 400,000 motorcaravan owners in the UK, more than registered caravan owners, there is a growing market for these types of sites which cater for a different type of recreational holiday and your business could tap into it.
