Capital Investment Support

*For capital expenditure projects grants are available from £50,000 upwards.

The scheme provides grant support for capital investment projects that will create new, sustainable jobs in Tees Valley.

Support is available to businesses of all sizes providing more than a local service with a higher emphasis being placed on SMEs.

Grants are available for capital expenditure, business expansion and diversification and is designed to help firms to expand their operations or to set up new establishments in the region.

Support offered will be determined by certain factors including expenditure involved, size of company & job creation.

The program operates under strict State Aid rules. Non-SMEs will only be eligible by exception – please speak to a member of the team.

Projects MUST meet the eligibility of the program.

To be successful, applications must:

  • Create or safeguard sustainable jobs within the applicant company
  • Offer good value for money in terms of value of grant per job created
  • Have adequate private sector funding for the project
  • Comply with State Aid regulations

Tees Valley ERDF Growth Fund

If you are a Small or medium-sized business based in the Tees Valley catchment area with plans to grow & employ more staff then you may be eligible to access grant funding.

You could access up to 55% grant funding for business improvement projects costing between £1,819 – £90,909 (maximum grant of £49,999).

The Fund is managed by the Tees Valley Combined Authority.

It can support businesses in many ways to help grow their business, improve productivity and stimulate growth.

The grants may be used to buy any of the following:

  • Tools or machinery
  • Computer equipment
  • Premises improvement or expansion – capital works and equipment
  • External consultancy
  • Business growth planning
  • Strategy development
  • HR strategy & development
  • Marketing plans & activities
  • Website design & development
  • Product or process development diversification
  • Financial planning
  • Development of systems & procedures

Small Business Leadership Programme

The Small Business Leadership Programme is a fully-funded programme available to Tees Valley businesses delivered online by Northumbria University business school.

It will provide support through a structured curriculum of 90 minute webinars over the course of 10 weeks with access to small business and management experts. The programme will commence in September 2020.

Participants will create peer groups to develop strategic leadership skills, and the confidence to make informed decisions that boost business performance.

The curriculum explores leadership, innovation, employee engagement, operational efficiency, marketing, sustainable practices, and finance.

Small Business Programme

Peer Network Programme

Peer Networks is a peer-to-peer networking programme for Tees Valley SMEs provided by Tees Valley Business.

Businesses that seek external advice or undertake formal training are more likely to improve their overall performance, but many prefer to take advice from trusted sources, such as their peers, when presented with external challenges and opportunities.

The fully funded Peer Networks enables you to make connections that go far beyond networking.

By completing Peer Networks, you will:

  • Overcome business challenges and recognise and act on new opportunities
  • Build a trusted network of connections to support you now and in the future
  • Improve your long-term personal and business performance

From finance and HR to sales and marketing and more, expert facilitators will give you the flexibility to create a trusted support network, helping to build and strengthen your business and improve its overall performance.

Peer Networks is delivered through a series of virtual high impact group sessions, with a trained facilitator.

The programme includes:

  • Action oriented learning
  • Trained facilitators
  • Small groups
  • Flexible topic selection
  • One to one coaching

Eligibility

Peer Networks is designed for business owners and leaders in Tees Valley who want to grow and develop their organisation for future success. This course is fully funded and there are no costs to the business.

The programme is available to any SME business that has:

  • Operated for at least one year
  • At least five employees
  • A turnover of at least £100,000

And ideally has the potential to scale up or export or is exporting already.

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council

High Street Support Scheme

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council are offering grant funding support to enable businesses in selected retail premises across Redcar and Cleveland to set up or make a range of improvements. Funding may be available for:

  • Shop frontage or internal works
  • Internal work to make your business more sustainable
  • Making your property more secure
  • Making enhancements to upper floors in our town centres to bring them back into business use
  • Shop fitting and other capital elements for businesses setting up in our town centres

Below is a breakdown of the range of grants available.

Bring your business to … grant

A small grant scheme aimed at new or existing businesses looking to set up in our town centres to support with shop fitting and other capital works.

Funding is capped 80% of the agreed total pre agreed project costs up to a maximum of £10k.  Applicants must be engaged with our Business Growth Team.

Sustainable High Street grant

A capital grant scheme for businesses within our town centres to make improvements to their Shop frontage or internal works.  Funding is on a 50/50 match funding basis up to a maximum grant of £2500.

Secure Towns grant

A small capital grant scheme for town centre businesses to make their properties more secure.  The scheme is on a 50/50 match funding basis, up to a maximum Council contribution of £1000  Businesses must be engaged with Cleveland Police Crime Prevention Team.

Above Shops grant

A grant scheme to support enhancements of upper floors of buildings to bring them back into use as business or residential units. Funding is on a 50/50 match funding basis, up to a maximum of £10,000.

Welcome to … grant

A grant to support new and existing businesses who wish to create new quality bed spaces in Redcar and Cleveland to support our tourism and visitor economy. Funding may be available for:

  • Refurbishment – bringing rooms back into use
  • Conversion of a room into a bedroom
  • Extensions for the purpose of creating new bedrooms
  • Setting up as an accommodation provider

Council contribution will be capped at 60% of total pre agreed project costs (which cannot exceed £30,000 per application) and must not exceed £5k per new bed space created.

Businesses must engage with Visit England linked to future accreditation.
