Saltburn Cliff Tramway

Saltburn Tramway is hugely popular, and an iconic structure, so it is with deep regret that the tough decision has been taken for it to remain closed this year. The decision was taken, following Government guidance, that we should remain cautious, especially in small, enclosed spaces and comes at a time when the Covid infection rate in our Borough is increasing. The opportunity will be taken to refurbish the carriages which will make the experience of using the tramway more comfortable and even more enjoyable next year.
You may see the carriages moving, as part of our routine maintenance programme, but we are not open.

Welcome To Saltburn Cliff Tramway

The Saltburn Cliff Tramway opened in 1884 to replace a vertical hoist and is now the oldest water balanced funicular still in operation in Great Britain, linking the Victorian town of Saltburn with the only remaining pleasure pier on the whole North East and Yorkshire coast.
