Saltburn Cliff Tramway

Redcar and Cleveland Visual Border

Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council is urging everyone in the borough to take steps to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Following national guidelines on social distancing and avoiding unnecessary contact, The Saltburn Cliff Tramway will close from Thursday 19 March.

In order to maintain the Tramway we will still have to carry out our daily, weekly and monthly safety checks to ensure that we can open quickly, efficiently and safely once we are allowed to do so. You therefore may see the trams moving as part of those checks, but we will remain closed to the public until directed otherwise.

The situation will remain under regular review and we will share updates with you here and on our Facebook page.

Welcome To Saltburn Cliff Tramway

The Saltburn Cliff Tramway opened in 1884 to replace a vertical hoist and is now the oldest water balanced funicular still in operation in Great Britain, linking the Victorian town of Saltburn with the only remaining pleasure pier on the whole North East and Yorkshire coast.
